Your Apple Watch, in a pocket

Enough phone.

Calls, texts, pay, maps, music. No feed. Fob holds your Apple Watch like a pocket watch, so the phone that can reach you is one you can't fall into.

Fits every Apple Watch since Series 4 · charges in the case · ships assembled

The Fob case with an Apple Watch inside, resting in an open palm
A day with less phone

Reachable. Not reachable-into.

The watch already does the parts of a phone you actually need. Taking it off the wrist and putting it in a pocket is the part nobody tried.

Morning

Face down on the desk. It charges through the back, it still rings, and there is nothing to pick up and check.

Out

Pay at the counter, take the directions, play the album. All from a pocket, none of it followed by twenty minutes you didn't plan.

Evening

Calls and texts still find you. The people who need you get through. The feeds that want you don't.

Honest list

What still works. What doesn't.

You are deciding whether you can live with this, so here is the whole picture. The useful half of a phone comes with you. The half that eats evenings stays home.

The object

Made to be held, not worn.

Four inches tall whatever the watch, so it sits in a hand like a small phone and clips to a bag like a tool. Two plates that lock into each other, six screws, a loop of cord.

Each size is cut from Apple's own dimensional drawing for that watch body, so the cradle follows the real curve of the case and the front lip lands on the metal shoulder, never the glass.

Add-on

Carry the charger. Wear the cable.

A clip that screws onto the back of the case and holds Apple's charging puck and its USB-C plug. The metre of cable between them is the lanyard. The one thing a watch-as-phone needs every night comes with you, and nothing dangles that isn't already doing a job.

  1. Carry

The puck sits under a hood on the back, over the watch's charging opening. The plug lies across the tail between two sprung fingers. Both cords leave the base, one each side, and the loop between them goes round your neck or a bag strap.

  2. Charge

Lift the puck out of the hood and press it onto the watch through the opening. The magnet seats it. Slide the plug out of its fingers and into any USB-C port. The case never opens and the watch never comes out.

  3. Fit

One printed thumb screw, in from the front through the paracord hole, turned with a coin. Take the clip off and the paracord loop goes back on. No tools, nothing permanent.

Turn the model above to Ultra + clip to see it mounted: the puck under its hood, the plug in its channel, both cords out the base.

Before you decide

The questions people ask.

Can an Apple Watch really stand in for my phone?

For the basics, yes. A cellular watch makes and takes calls, does iMessage and SMS, Apple Pay, Maps, Music and Siri with the iPhone left at home. A GPS-only watch does the same while the iPhone is within Bluetooth range or on the same Wi-Fi. What it can't do is hold a feed.

Do I have to take the band off?

Yes. Fob holds the bare watch body. Press the band release buttons, slide the band out, drop the watch in, screw the face on. It goes back on the wrist in five minutes when you want it there.

Does it charge inside the case?

Yes. The opening in the back clears the sensor dome and Apple's charging puck. Set it face down on the puck and walk away.

What happens to battery life off the wrist?

Turn off Wrist Detection in the Watch app (Passcode, then Wrist Detection). The watch stops looking for a pulse and lasts noticeably longer. You unlock it with the passcode, like a phone.

Does the phone at home still get my messages?

Yes. iMessage, calls and notifications arrive on every device on your account. When you pick the iPhone up again, nothing is missing.

Will the case touch the screen?

No. The front lip rides on the metal shoulder of the watch, outside the glass edge, following Apple's accessory guideline that a case must not contact the cover glass.

Can I carry the charger with it?

Yes, with the charger clip. It screws onto the back of the case and holds Apple's puck and the USB-C plug; the cable between them is the lanyard. To charge, press the puck onto the watch through the opening in the back and plug in. The case stays closed. Ultra size first, others to follow.

Is it waterproof?

No. The case is open at the sides and the back; the watch keeps its own water resistance, the case just carries it.
